Celtic vs AZ Alkmaar Predictions

Celtic host Alkmaar on Wednesday night with both sides looking to make it to the next round of the Europa League. Celtic enter this stage of the competition after a win over Jablonec in the last round of the competition but their exit from the Champions League qualifying round will still be hurting the Scottish side. They have bounced back well from that defeat however, winning their last four games in all competitions, although they have conceded at a rate of a goal a game over that period.

AZ Alkmaar play their first game in the qualifying stage, following their third place finish in Eredivisie last season. They have only played one game in the new season, losing 1-0 to Waalwijk and they will be keen to pick up a victory here and put their disappointing start to the season behind them. They conceded in excess of a goal a game over the course of last season, almost double that of the eventual league winners, Ajax.

Both sides stand a good chance of making it through to the next round of the competition but their weaknesses are obvious for all to see and, as a result, we’re backing both teams to score in this match. It should be a fairly tight game, and we’re not anticipating either side picking up the win, instead forecasting a 1-1 draw.
