Cesar Vallejo vs Sao Paulo Predictions

The Peruvians are the underdogs both on the night and overall but with home advantage in the 1st Leg they will know this is their best chance in this tie. It is their first competitive game of 2016 and a rare outing in the Copa Libertadores. They haven’t played in this competition for 3 years when they were beaten at this stage 2-1 on aggregate by Deportes Tolima in 2013.

This is unquestionably a tougher game but they have got a very strong home record at Estadio Mansiche. They’ve won their last 6 matches at the stadium and can find real reasons to believe just by taking a look at Sao Paulo’s away record in this competition.

The Brazilians have lost 9 of their last 10 away games in the Copa Libertadores and were held to a goalless draw on their last visit to Peru by Universitario. Sao Paulo are also just starting their season and lost 3 of their final 4 away matches in Brazil last term.

They will be wary of this game and won’t come here with too much of an expansive game-plan you wouldn’t have thought given their woeful away record in continental competition. They’ll know if they can get Cesar Vallejo back to Brazil all square they will be very well placed to progress so would probably settle for a draw here. Cesar Vallejo will be determined to make the most of their chance in the competition and backing them to avoid defeat at 21/20 looks a decent bet.

Sao Paulo have much the greater quality though and experience of big games with the likes of Alan Kardec and Ganso having plenty of Libertadores ties behind them. Therefore they should be able to find a way to grab an away goal and a 1-1 draw looks a solid punt at 11/2 in the correct score market.
