Charlton vs Cardiff Predictions
The Bluebirds for the past half of the season were strong at home but struggled to win on the road but 2016 has brought about a complete reversal of those fortunes. Perhaps the pressure of playing in front of a demanding Cardiff City Stadium is starting to get to a few players and they’ve had 3 really disappointing home outings in recent weeks.
They’ve been held to draws in the league by lowly Rotherham and MK Dons while exited the FA Cup at home to League 1 Shrewsbury. They’ve won their last two away games though winning 3-1 at Wolves and 3-2 at Huddersfield to keep themselves in the hunt for the play-offs.
This will be viewed as a must-win game you sense if they are to harbour genuine top six ambitions with 5 points currently separating them from 6th place Sheffield Wednesday. Charlton meanwhile are 4 points below the dreaded dotted line and will need a big change of fortunes if they are to pull themselves to safety.
It looked as though that might have been about to happen when they won convincingly 4-1 at fellow strugglers Rotherham a fortnight ago. However things quickly took a turn for the worse when they slumped to a 1-0 home defeat against another side in the relegation mire, Bristol City last weekend.
Charlton have only won 1 of their last 13 at the Valley and none of their last 7. When you consider none of those 13 were against sides currently in the top 5, it is hard to see how they are going to get out of trouble. With Cardiff playing well and scoring goals on the road right now, they look good at 4/7 in the ‘draw no bet’ market which looks a safe bet given the rarity of a Charlton win.
That 4-1 win at Rotherham perhaps said more about their opponent’s frailties than their own brilliance and Charlton have been poor at both ends of the pitch for several months now. Therefore consider backing a 2-0 away win at 9/1 here.
