Chesterfield vs Oxford United Predictions

As each week passes, Chesterfield look more and more resigned to the fact that they’ll be plying their trade in League Two next season. The Spireites have won just one of their last 12 and are now a massive six points from safety, things definitely aren’t looking good. In complete contrast, Oxford picked themselves up with a win during the week and are just about still in the hunt for a play-off place – a win here would put them in a good position to strike.

Considering how dismal they’ve been of late, it’s difficult to fancy the hosts and backing the visitors to come out on top is very much the way to go here. Oxford have been in exceptional form on the road of late and can continue to go well by getting the better of opposition who’re struggling to keep their head above water.

The main problem for Chesterfield is goals, or rather a lack of. Gary Caldwell’s men are struggling to find the net on a regular basis and have now scored just four goals in their last ten fixtures. Against an Oxford side who’re no strangers to putting a few away, this doesn’t bode well.

Considering that Oxford have scored ten goals in their last five away (all-competitions), including two at Premier League Middlesbrough, it’s hard to see a low-scoring Chesterfield side competing here. Realistically, since the hosts are finding goals hard to come by, and have done for some time, they’d probably need to shut-out this Oxford side to get anything from the game and it’s hard to see that happening. After all, the visitors have scored in nine of their last ten on the road.

Right now, Chesterfield are both short on points and confidence and it’s fancied that this Oxford side can capitalise by taking all three points on Saturday afternoon.
