Chicago Fire vs Sporting Kansas City Predictions & Betting Tips, Match Previews

Chicago Fire looked like they might have made some substantial improvements to their team at the beginning of the new MLS season. They finished bottom of the Eastern Conference with just 30 points last season, but began the new campaign with just one defeat in their first five games.

However, their form has since fallen off a cliff, and they come into the halfway point of their domestic season with just 14 points from their 16 games. If they fail to get anything against Sporting Kansas City their points per game total will be lower than it was at the end of last term.

Last time out they lost 1-0 to Toronto FC, putting them back to losing ways after they beat Columbus Crew in the US Open Cup and got three points off San Jose Earthquakes. This result leaves them with just two wins from their last 12 MLS matches, and six of their last nine have ended in defeat. A win could take them off the bottom of the Eastern Conference though, but only if Columbus Crew fail to win their fixture.

Sporting Kansas City haven’t made any massive progress on last season, but they are steadily accumulating points and look like they will make it into the playoffs again after finishing 6th last season.

Their form has picked up of late as well. They have won four of their last six in all competitions and are unbeaten in five in the MLS, only dropping four points from a possible 15. This has taken them to 5th in the MLS Western Conference, and a win in Chicago could move them up to 3rd if they’re lucky. A defeat would allow Portland Timbers the opportunity of leapfrogging them though.

Away from home the visitors are struggling a bit though. They haven’t won on the road in their last seven attempts, although three of the last five have been draws. Chicago Fire have only won three of their eight home matches as well, and two of those have been against opponents who were really struggling. I think the visitors have a chance of getting a point or more here, so my prediction is a Sporting Kansas City Win or Draw Double Chance at 8/13 alongside a 1-1 correct score prediction at 5/1.
