      Chievo vs Sampdoria Predictions

This weekend marks Chievo’s last home game of the season, while it could be their final home match in Serie A for quite some time. The hosts are already relegated to Serie B, while they are wrapping up a dismal season over the course of the next week. Will they be able to sign off with a win for their home support, or are the Gialloblu going to disappoint once again? They take on Sampdoria this weekend, with the visitors looking to finish off a mixed season on a high.

Chievo have been one of the worst Serie A sides in recent years, as they are bottom of the table with just 15 points from 36 games. Almost a third of those points have come post-relegation for the hosts, as they were in dismal form when results mattered. Despite a mini-revival after relegation, the hosts are back to their old ways, having lost their last two matches to nil. They’re in awful shape ahead of their drop to Serie B, which suggests that their absence from the top flight is set to drag on for a few years.

Sampdoria have once again fallen out of the European mix, but they are going to finish up in ninth place. It’s not the worst return for a young side, especially given the uncertainty around the club as they look for a new owner. The visitors are aiming to finish off on a strong note, but their run in is vastly different. After heading to the league’s worst side they host champions Juventus on the final day. However, Samp still have the chance to beat last season’s 54 point haul with two more wins.

The visitors are favourites for an away win, which is hardly a surprise. They meet a Chievo side who have had real issues at home, with the hosts picking up only one win in 18 matches here. The Gialloblu have lost 11 times at their own ground, while they’ve failed to win 34 of their 36 matches in Serie A this season. They’ve lost four of their last five matches at home, with a 4-0 hammering by 11th placed SPAL their last result at this ground.

Chievo have lost seven of their nine matches at home to top half sides, which sets Samp up for a victory. The visitors don’t have the greatest record on their travels this season, but they should pull off a victory in this one. They’ve already won at the other bottom three sides – recording a 4-2 victory at Empoli and a 5-0 success at Frosinone. We’re backing a 3-0 away win here, while we’re going with an away win as our main tip.
