Tip Reasoning

  • Colchester have avoided defeat in five of their last six home League Two matches.
  • Leyton Orient have failed to win any of their last six away league games.
  • Colchester have not lost to Leyton Orient in their last four (all wins).

O’s and U’s struggling for numbers ahead of Boxing Day clash

Colchester United will seek a long-awaited reaction to a very poor showing against Walsall last time out when they play their first game in over a fortnight on Boxing Day. Leyton Orient are the visitors to the JobServe Community Stadium and the O’s are also bidding to bounce back from back-to-back defeats in the League Two for the first time this season.

On the back of a 2-1 home loss to struggling Crawley, Kenny Jackett’s side went down 1-0 at Tranmere without a number of players through injury or Covid-related.  Alex Mitchell, Theo Archibald and Omar Beckles missed the trip to the Wirral through Covid related circumstances while Tom James, Hector Kyprianou and Callum Reilly were injured and skipper Darren Pratley was suspended.

Home side too big to ignore in double chance market

Jackett hopes to have Kyprianou back at his disposal on Boxing Day and the O’s situation may even be slightly better than their hosts with Colchester chairman Robbie Cowling admitting the U’s were down to 14 available players ahead of both the postponed Hartlepool and Forest Green fixtures.

Assuming they have enough players available to see the game go ahead, Colchester do look a bit big given their home record.  Two wins in their last three include a 3-1 success over seventh-placed Exeter an d a 1-1 draw with sixth-placed Newport.

The double chance market looks the way to go here and we are encouraged by the fact that Leyton Orient have not won any of their last six away league games. A 1-1 draw is suggested in correct score betting as the O’s have conceded at a rate of one goal per game in their last six road trips.
