Colombia vs Ecuador Predictions

  • Colombia are unbeaten in their last six internationals (W2, D4).
  • Los Cafeteros have won their last four home meetings with Ecuador and triumphed 1-0 when the sides met at this summer’s Copa America.
  • Ecuador have lost four of their five away qualifiers (W1).

Colombia hold solid claims in Barranquilla

Ecuador hammered Colombia 6-1 in last November’s reverse qualifying fixture, but Los Cafeteros are solid favourites to come out on top when the sides meet in Barranquilla this Thursday.

Indeed, Colombia’s collapse in Quito proved to be a real turning point, as they’ve since gone six matches unbeaten in qualifying (W2, D4) and supplemented that form with a decent run to the semi-finals at this summer’s Copa America, which included a 1-0 group stage success over Ecuador in Cuiaba.

Reinaldo Rueda’s side will have gleaned a modicum of revenge for that triumph, though they’ll be extremely keen to inflict more damage upon Tricolor en route to victory here on Matchday 12.

Travel sick Tricolor

Colombia come into this tie fifth in the standings and in decent form after goalless draws away to Uruguay and at home to Brazil during the past week, and they should prove far too good for their poor travelling opponents, who have lost four of their five away qualifiers including a 2-1 defeat in Venezuela on Sunday.

It’s impossible to fancy the visitors to obtain any form of result this Thursday based on that performance and their overall results outside of Quito and Colombia are a solid bet to land the spoils at 4/6.

And with clean sheets secured against stronger nations over the last seven days, the hosts can bag another shut-out in Barranquilla, with Ecuador netting just four times in their five away qualifiers. This looks set to be a comfortable night for the Colombians and they can stay in contention for a top four spot with via a 2-0 score-line.
