Cordoba vs Gimnastic Predictions

It’s been a dismal season for both Cordoba and Gimnastic; both are heading down to the third tier of Spanish football regardless of what happens between now and the end of the season. In front of their own fans, where they recently won, Cordoba will be looking to regain another ounce of dignity before they drop back into Segunda B. Much of the same can be said for the visitors, who at least come into this game off the back of a win.

To stay in any division, you need to make use of home advantage on a reasonably regular basis, which is something that Cordoba have failed to do this season. Going forward, Sunday’s hosts have offered a decent amount, as they’ve scored a respectable 27 goals, but they’ve let themselves down big time at the back. On their own patch this season, Cordoba have conceded a whopping 34 goals in 19 games. Unsurprisingly, no Segunda team has conceded more goals at home than Cordoba, who’re also the only team to concede 30+ in front of their own fans this season.

While Cordoba have been woeful at home, Gimnastic have been busy doing everything they can to avoid winning on their travels. Sunday’s visitors come into this match with the worst away record in the division, as they’ve accumulated a pathetic total of just six points on the road.

In addition to taking very few points, Gimnastic have defended appallingly away from home during the current campaign, shipping a worrying total of 34 goals. However, somewhat bizarrely, their terrible defensive record hasn’t been the worst thing about Gimnastic’s travelling efforts. Scoring goals has been a huge problem for Sunday’s visitors, who’ve notched just four goals in 19 away matches. Such a total is nothing short of embarrassing. Their average of 0.68 expected goals for does tell us that they should’ve scored more, but it also tells us that they’re weak in terms of creativity. Even if their goals for column matched their expected goals for column, they’d only have notched 13 goals, which would still be very poor.

There’s not been many games where Cordoba catch the eye in the betting, but this is certainly one of them. The hosts have given away quite a bit at home, but no more than Gimnastic have surrendered on the road, while they’ve offered considerably more going forward. Considering that the hosts average 1.44 goals for and 1.1 expected goals for at home, backing ‘Cordoba to Win’, ahead of a match against a side that averages just 0.21 and 0.68 away from home, is a bet that offers plenty of value at the current prices.
