Corinthians vs Chapecoense Predictions
After a really tough middle part of the season, Corinthians have finally found some form, collecting 8 points from their last 4 league games. Their Copa do Brasil exit earlier in the month means the league is all they now have left and they are battling it out for a place in the Copa Libertadores next year, so they can’t afford to take it easy and experiment over the final few weeks. They are currently in the 6th and final Libertadores position but have a host of teams on their tail so nothing but victory will do here.
They should be well capable of getting it too. They’ve won 2 of their 3 league games since Oswaldo de Oliveira took charge and he is a bit more attacking than their previous coaches, so their players look to have had the shackles released to some extent and they’ve netted twice or more in all of their 4 matches under the new boss.
Chapecoense are one of the worst defensive sides in the league. Only bottom club Santa Cruz have conceded more goals than them this season and Chape have conceded 1.59 goals per game on average and 1.88 on their travels. They’ve won just 1 of their last 7 in the league, losing 4 of them so they aren’t in great form. They may need another point or two to absolutely guarantee their safety but their situation isn’t really perilous and they may have one eye on the Copa Sudamericana, which they have reached the Semi-Finals of, so that is likely to be their priority now.
Corinthians are in the better form, have a very strong home record over the past couple of years and are likely to be the more motivated side here so it’s hard to see past a relatively comfortable home victory and backing Corinthians – Over 1.5 Team Goals at 4/6 looks a decent bet.
