Croatia vs Canada Predictions
- Canada won the shot count 22-9 against Belgium on Wednesday.
- Croatia have scored in six of their last seven games.
- Jonathan David had seven shots on goal against Belgium and has scored nine league goals this season.
Lifeless Croatia struggle for openings
2018 World Cup finalists Croatia began their campaign with an uninspiring goalless draw against Morocco and they could find themselves shocked by an energetic Canada side on Sunday.
Zlatko Dalic’s side struggled to break through a well-drilled Morocco outfit, attempting just five shots on goal and only testing the opposition keeper twice.
This result did extend their unbeaten run to seven matches but they should be wary of the Canadian threat after seeing them in action against Belgium later on Wednesday.
Canada unlucky in defeat
The Maple Leafs have never scored a point, or even a goal, at the World Cup but their first appearance in the competition since 1986 saw them put in a fantastic display against European heavyweights Belgium.
They won the shot count against the number-two ranked Belgians 22-9, missing a first-half penalty and having two very credible penalty shouts waved away by the referee.
John Herdman’s side brought a frantic energy to their attack that made life very uncomfortable for Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld and they can do the same to Croatia’s back line on Sunday.
Back the underdogs in Al Rayyan
Given the upsets we have already seen and the general World Cup betting trends, backing Canada to take a shock three points is appealing.
However, the Canadian defence were undone by a relatively simple long ball and with Croatia’s passing quality they should be able to carve out a few openings, making a 2-1 correct score prediction a solid option.
Jonathan David makes for a tasty anytime goalscorer option, too. The Canada striker had a bad day in front of goal against Belgium but he had seven shots on goal and was getting into all the right positions. That poor finishing is by no means a normality either, with the Lille forward scoring nine goals in 15 Ligue 1 appearances this term.
