Cruz Azul vs Tijuana Predictions

Saturday’s Liga MX Clausura action sees Cruz Azul doing battle with Tijuana. The hosts will be desperate to make it 3 wins on the bounce with a strong showing in front of the home crowd.

Cruz Azul looked to be suffering the hangover of defeat in the Apertura play-off final, kicking off the Clausura with a draw at Puebla and a home defeat to Chivas, but La Maquina are now in improved shape and confidence is restored following an excellent week.

Pedro Caixinha’s men picked up a fantastic 1-0 win away at Tigres last weekend in league action and having followed that up with victory at Alebrijes de Oaxaca in the cup during mid-week, there’s a renewed vigour about the side and they’ll be hoping to carry that into Saturday’s clash. Expected to be in the running for the title once again, the hosts will be looking to move up the table in the coming weeks, starting with maximum points from this fixture.

Meanwhile, Tijuana cannot really perform any worse than they did in the Apertura, which they finished fourth-bottom of with just 17 points from as many games. Clausura action started in just as disappointing manner for Los Xolos, as they lost 2-0 away to Chivas and 3-0 at home to Tigres, but Oscar Pareja’s men are at least off the mark now following their 1-0 victory away to Leon last weekend.

Nonetheless, the visitors will have to do a lot more than win one game to convince us they’re an improved outfit and having lost 2-1 to Pachuca during midweek cup action, any momentum gained has already been lost. Having also lost 10 of their last 15 away league games, Tijuana are very clearly not a powerful force on the road and for that reason, their prospects do not look bright ahead of kick-off.

Ultimately, this is a match Cruz Azul really should be winning. Man for man, they’re a stronger team than Tijuana, reflected by the fact that the two finished at opposite ends of the table in the Apertura and with the crowd behind them, everything is pointing towards a home win.

As such, that’s exactly what we’re backing and we fully expect the hosts to get the job done with few issues. They’ve won 11 of their last 15 home league matches and are typically very strong on home turf and with Tijuana so poor on the road and in general, a 2-0 margin of home victory could well be on the cards.
