Reasoning
Crystal Palace vs Luton Predictions
- At least three goals have been scored in six of Crystal Palace’s last seven matches
- At least three goals have been scored in Luton’s last nine games in all competitions
- Both teams have scored in five of Palace’s last six and all of Luton’s last six matches
Hatters could be too entertaining for their own good
Luton are in danger of being too entertaining for their own good as the Hatters head to Croydon to take on Crystal Palace on Saturday.
No other Premier League team has seen as many goals scored in their last six games with Rob Edwards’ side contributing 13 of the 29 in total.
Although Luton initially struggled to adapt to the top flight, they conceded a respectable average of 1.88 goals per game until Christmas. However, that average has gone up to 2.44 per game since the decorations began to come down and perhaps indicates why Luton’s descent looks more likely by the day.
Luton have outscored the champions in last six
However, the Hatters have scored more goals than any team in the lower half of the table since the turn of the year and have even outscored Manchester City in their last six. They pepper opponents’ boxes with crosses and can play neatly through the thirds with Ross Barkley at the hub of it all.
It took two set pieces for them to break down Aston Villa’s well-marshalled defence in a 3-2 defeat last week and a similar scoreline could be possible against a Palace team that now look a potent force again.
Eze does it for attack-minded Eagles
The return of Eberechi Eze, who has scored four goals in his last four Premier League games, plus a new enthusiasm for the ideas of Oliver Glasner have made them a compelling watch in the last couple of games.
The Eagles produced their highest expected goals (xG) figure for the season in the 3-0 home win over Burnley a fortnight ago with Glasner’s 3-4-3 system proving a real hit with the players.
And, as these two clubs have seen a majority of their recent matches go over 2.5 goals with both teams on the scoresheet, that looks the outstanding play in this matchup. Palace, however, appear more likely to edge a high-scoring duel because of Eze’s influence.
