Cyprus vs Belgium Predictions
Cyprus are slowly improving their stature in world football. Before these Euro 2016 qualifiers began they were enduring a 13 match winless streak, with ten of those ending in defeat.
However, they ended this run in their first game in Group B, beating Bosnia-Herzegovina 2-1 away from home after only scoring two goals in their last 12 games.
Since then, they have scored in three of their five Euro 2016 qualifiers and picked up two more victories against Group B whipping boys Andorra.
This leaves them in 4th position in the group with nine points from their first seven games. They even have a chance of reaching the playoffs, as Israel only sit three points above them in 3rd place.
They played against group leaders Wales on Thursday, and deserved more than they got. They held onto the ball better than Wales, and actually managed more attempts on goal than the leaders. But Gareth Bale rescued the Welsh when he popped up with a goal in the last ten minutes to win 1-0.
Belgium may be a bit more difficult for Cyprus to deal with, as their wealth of talent is more widely varied than the Welsh squad.
This was on show for their 3-1 victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina on Thursday, with Marouane Fellaini, Kevin De Bruyne, and Eden Hazard all scoring after Edin Dzeko put the visitors in front.
Fellaini and Hazard got on the scoresheet for the Belgians in the return fixture, as the hosts went on to win 5-0.
The aerial prowess of Fellaini and Benteke, combined with the skills on the ground of Hazard, De Bruyne, and Mertens make Belgium’s attack a force to be reckoned with. The five players mentioned already have 11 goals between them in this qualification campaign.
With the Belgians being the top scorers in the group, odds of 20/21 for a Belgium -1 Handicap Win look like very good value for money.
