DC United vs FC Dallas Predictions

DC United remain outside of the play-off places in the Eastern Conference, two points behind Montreal Impact, but with two games in hand they are still the favourites to take sixth place ahead of the Canadians. This weekend DC United play host to a Dallas side that sit top of the Western Conference by four points, following their victory over Orlando City and Sporting KC’s draw at home to LA Galaxy.

Wayne Rooney came to the rescue for DC United last weekend at home to Chicago Fire, but this game of few chances saw the team head in at the break goalless. The importance of a win for the hosts was talked about before the game and that may have lead to their nervous start to the match. The tension inside the stadium increased when Edwards put the visitors in front just six minutes into the second half.

DC United needed inspiration from somewhere and they got it from former England captain Wayne Rooney who scored the equalising goal shortly after the hour mark and then held his nerve to convert an eighty-first minute penalty. That goal proved enough to win the game for the hosts, and on the balance of play it was a fair result as DC United had 56% of the overall possession and ten shots in the game to their guests six.

With ten goals in the MLS this season Jamaican striker Mattocks top scores for DC United, but Acosta, Asad, and Rooney are all on nine goals each and any one of the four could end the season as DC’s top scorer. Despite not having a single player into double figures in league goals this season, Dallas remain top of the pile in the Western Conference and are the favourites to finish in first place this season.

Dallas claimed all three points at home against struggling Orlando City last weekend, but the visitors made their hosts work for their victory. The two teams went in goalless at the break despite each creating chances to score, as Orlando matched Dallas toe to toe and gave the hosts something to think about during the break.

Second half substitute Mosquera gave Dallas the lead just seven minutes after being introduced into the game, and shortly after teammate Ulloa scored another goal to help wrap up a 2-0 win. Once they went behind Orlando City never really looked capable of getting back into the match, and despite having two games in hand over Chicago Fire, it looks like City will finish bottom of the Eastern Conference.

We’re confident that DC United will win on Saturday and that both teams will score in the process. DC United have won two of their last three home games against Dallas. The hosts have won three of their last four MLS games, all of which have been at home. Dallas have one win, one draw, and one defeat from their last three away games, while both teams have scored in five of DC United’s last six matches.
