DC United vs New York Red Bulls Betting Tips & Predictions

DC United have been frustratingly inconsistent so far this season, with a few comprehensive defeats being mixed in with a couple of very impressive victories.

Overall though it’s been a disappointing start to the campaign. They let a half-time lead slip in the opening match against LA Galaxy and ended up losing 4-1, and they remained winless for the next four MLS fixtures.

When the win finally came it was worth waiting for as they dismantled Whitecaps with a 4-0 hammering, but they followed it up with a home defeat to Toronto FC. They then picked up their second and most recent victory of the season in a 3-0 win against New England Revolution, and have since drawn with Chicago Fire and lost to New York City.

This leaves them in a rather disappointing 6th position in the MLS Eastern Conference with an average points return of just one per game. Three of the teams above them and two below them have games in hand as well.

If DC United’s start to the season was a disappointment, then New York Red Bulls has been a disaster. The team that lifted the Supporters Shield last season began the new campaign by losing six of their first seven games. They managed a 4-3 win against Houston Dynamo in the midst of this horrific start to the campaign, but despite their recent resurgence they still find themselves down in 7th position.

New York Red Bulls have shown signs of recovery though. They beat Orlando City 3-2 a few weeks ago and followed it up with a 4-0 hammering of FC Dallas. They couldn’t manage another win over Orlando City when they visited them on Saturday though, instead settling for a point.

This means that they are still to win on the road this season and have picked up just one point from a possible 15 away from home. DC United have lost three of their six home matches so far though, so the visitors do have a chance.

Both of these teams have shown that they have it in them to score a hat full this season. DC United have secured two three goal plus victories at home, but they just don’t hit these heights often enough and have conceded three or more on two occasions as well. New York Red Bulls have scored 11 goals in their three wins this season, but they have averaged almost two goals conceded per game.

The sketchy defensive play from both sides and their potential for landslide victories mean that a high scoring game could well be on the cards, so I’m backing Over 2.5 Goals at 13/20 along with a 2-2 correct score prediction at 11/1.
