Deportivo La Coruna vs Celta Vigo Predictions
These two local rivals almost seem to have mirrored each other in recent times. They were both enjoying strong spells around the turn of the century, particularly Deportivo before a decline which saw both clubs drop out of the top flight. They were promoted from the Segunda Division together in 2012 and this year we appear to be seeing a real renaissance for football in Galicia with both clubs currently in the top half of the table and enjoying strong campaigns.
However both have suffered setbacks in recent weeks. Celta Vigo were thumped 5-1 at home by Valencia last time out and although they remain in the top four, it may well have knocked their confidence a little.
Deportivo haven’t won any of their last 5 games but have still only lost 2 of their last 15 league matches, which is an incredible run for a side that nearly went down last term.
Both sides are quite attacking so we should see goals here. With home advantage Deportivo will be expected to take the game to their rivals and there have been 14 goals scored in the last 4 matches at the Riazor although only one has ended in a home win.
Celta Vigo are a refreshingly open and attacking side, sometimes to their own downfall as we saw last time out. Only Barcelona and Real Madrid have scored more goals than them this term but they also have the worst defensive record in the top half.
There have been 3 or more goals in all of Celta Vigo’s last 4 matches and you can back that to be the case again here at generous odds of 9/10.
This is typically a very even rivalry. Deportivo have 24 wins to Celta Vigo’s 23 in meetings between the sides in La Liga. Celta did the double over Deportivo last season but their opponents are a much improved unit now and it’s 9 months since the last meeting.
With home advantage and the confidence that their good form has brought, Depor should be able to avoid defeat this time but are still a little short on their rivals in terms of quality so a 5th draw in 6 matches is possible.
We should see goals though and odds of 12/1 look appealing for this to end 2-2.
