Derby vs Salford City Predictions
- Derby County are without a win in their last eight competitive matches, losing six.
- The Rams are operating with a threadbare squad due to ongoing financial issues.
- Salford City have won four of their last six competitive matches (D1, L1).
Stricken Rams set for early cup exit
Two divisions may separate these teams, but Salford City of League 2 are firmly on the rise and The Ammies are backed to knockout crisis club Derby County in the Carabao Cup this Tuesday night.
These are perilous times for the Rams, who have lost the majority of their first team squad during the summer due to the club’s crippling debts. Wayne Rooney’s side managed to hold a COVID-19 hit Huddersfield Town to a 1-1 draw at Pride Park on Saturday, but they’re now without a win in eight competitive matches stretching back to last season, losing six.
It’s hard to imagine that Carabao Cup progress will be a priority for Rooney and his heavily depleted ranks, who come up against a Salford City side going from strength to strength.
They finished a highly respectable eighth last term after winning four of their last five league matches and The Ammies are amongst the favourites for promotion this time around.
They began the league season with an underwhelming 1-1 draw at home to Leyton Orient on Saturday, but that doesn’t stop us getting behind Gary Bowyer’s men here who will be keen to take claim the scalp of a Championship outfit.
A combination of the clubs’ respective trajectories and form from the back end of last season points towards an upset this week, although Derby’s well documented current plight means a Salford victory probably won’t come as too much of a shock.
The Ammies look a great price to progress at just over 2/1 and we’re also tipping up a 1-2 score-line in favour of the visitors.
