Take Terrors to torment depleted Red Lichties

Dundee United can almost certainly secure their place in the knockout rounds of the Scottish League Cup with a win over fellow 100 percenters Arbroath on Saturday.

The Terrors hit Elgin City for six days after dispatching Kelty Hearts by a solitary goal in their opening Group B fixture.

Therefore a win for Tam Courts’ men should be enough to see them through – especially as visitors Arbroath are their nearest challengers for the automatic qualifying spot.

The Red Lichties have recorded back-to-back wins with clean sheets, but lost skipper Thomas O’Brien to injury and saw goalkeeper Calum Antell sent off in the 2-0 win over East Fife on Wednesday.

The fact that they managed to score twice and not concede with ten men and no recognised keeper for the last 23 minutes is to their credit – or to the shame of East Fife – but Premiership Dundee United will be in no mood for mercy.

Many of the United players will recall the Smokies’ 1-0 Championship win at Tannadice two seasons ago and revenge will be on their mind.

With Antell suspended and O’Brien a doubt for Arbroath it’s hard to look past a home win – and probably a very handsome one too – so we’re tipping the Terrors to run riot with a win by at least two clear goals.

And we prefer 3-0 to any other correct score option because they have put an average of 2.5 goals in their opponents’ net across the last ten home outings in the competition.
