Partick Thistle Double Chance (Win or Draw)

Reason for tip

Dundee United are a team lacking form and confidence following Saturday’s 1-0 loss at Spartans – their sixth competitive defeat on the bounce. Championship rivals Partick should be able to capitalise as they have lost just once in 13 matches.

Draw 1-1

Reason for tip

Jim Goodwin has won just three of his 13 matches in charge of Dundee United and they may fail to win again when they face a hard-to-beat Partick side that have lost just one of their last 13 games and who drew 1-1 with Peterhead in their Scottish League Cup opener.

Dundee United vs Partick Thistle Predictions

  • Dundee United suffered a shock defeat to Spartans in their opening group fixture
  • The Terrors have lost six competitive matches on the bounce
  • Partick have only suffered defeat in one of their last 13 competitive games

Terrible showing for Terrors last time out

Dundee United were relegated from the Premiership last season after losing their final five matches, but their poor form reached a new low on Saturday, as they lost 1-0 at fourth tier Spartans in their Group B opener in this season’s Scottish League Cup.

That leaves Jim Goodwin’s side already facing an uphill battle to reach the knockout stages and their home form will certainly not fill them with confidence, as they ended last season by losing six of their final nine matches at Tannadice.

The pressure is already seemingly mounting on manager Goodwin, who has won just three of his 13 matches since taking charge in March – it is hard to see him adding a fourth victory this midweek.

Partick hard to beat

United will face their Championship rivals Partick on Tuesday and Thistle also got their group campaign off to a rather laboured start, as they were held to a 1-1 draw at fourth-tier Peterhead, although they did pick up a bonus point by winning the subsequent penalty shootout.

There was irony to that shootout success given Partick missed out on promotion to the Premiership last season after losing a dramatic play-off final on penalties to Ross County.

However, that 3-1 defeat to County in the second leg of the play-off final is the only loss Kris Doolan’s side have suffered across their last 13 games and they will be confident of avoiding defeat on Tuesday and perhaps replicating the 1-1 scoreline they recorded against Peterhead.
