Dundee vs St Johnstone Predictions
Bottom of the table Dundee will host top-half St Johnstone at Dens Park in the final game of the year as they try and escape the relegation zone. Can the Dee pick up the three points?
Dundee returned and stayed in the 12th place position after they struggled to pick up points in their last four games. Their lack of positive performances comes after it seemed like the club weren’t going to make it out of the relegation zone.
Jim McIntyre’s first few games in charge were nothing to be proud of, but the Dee eventually managed to string together four games in a row in which they picked up points, thanks to draws against St Mirren, Hibs and Rangers, as well as a 4-0 thrashing of Hamilton.
However, the club has been dire ever since. Three inevitable defeats in a trot were quickly forgotten after a positive Boxing Day result against a strong, defensive Livingston team. Moreover, the Dee’s three defeats were to three of the more in form teams in the league: Kilmarnock, Celtic and Aberdeen. The Dundee defense suffered heavily too, conceding eleven goals in those fixtures and failing to score enough in any of them to get at least a point.
Their most recent outing saw Dundee host Livingston in a dull game that would eventually end goalless, with the only real excitement coming in the 84th minute when Livingston’s Jack Hamilton was shown the red card, but the score remained intact.
Following a turbulent few weeks in the Scottish Premiership, St Johnstone have returned to the top half of the league table, amassing an impressive 31 points in just 19 games- a match less than everyone else in the league bar Celtic.
After an incredible month in November, for which manager Tommy Wright received an award, the Saints finally came back down to Earth after their incredible run of unbeaten games that had extended to eight games.
Two defeats in a row prior to the Christmas fixtures were enough to push them back down into the bottom half of the table, as the Saints lost to both Motherwell and Rangers. Their Boxing Day fixture brought positivity back to the club, beating St Mirren 1-0.
St Johnstone were lucky to take all three points in their most recent outing. It was a game that lacked both chances and excitement, and it seemed like the game would finish goalless. However, ex-Celtic striker Tony Watt would fire St Johnstone in front in the final minutes of the game, ensuring that the Perth club continue to fight for a place in the top spots of the league.
Dundee are desperate to end their year on a positive note so they can return from the winter break with hope. A win for the hosts could see them overtake St Mirren and make it out of the automatic relegation spot. St Johnstone have been one of the best teams so far this season, and we’re expecting for the visitors to take the three points here. We’re also backing a final score of 2-0, and for Tony Watt to bag another goal for his side.
