Egypt vs Morocco Predictions
- Morocco are the second-highest scorers in the competition
- Meanwhile, Egypt have scored twice in four matches
- Morocco have won three of four games at the tournament and their last six World Cup qualifiers
Two frontrunners clash
Sunday’s first Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final is a clash between two serious contenders to lift the trophy next weekend. Both of these sides have a solid foundation behind their well-known talents, marking them out as sides to fear.
Of course all eyes will be on Egypt’s star man Mo Salah, but it’s been their defence which has guided them into the last eight. With three straight clean sheets behind them, Egypt are a tough team to break down. They held the Ivory Coast to a 0-0 draw last time out, only progressing on penalties.
Morocco can edge big clash
However, the key here will be their attempts to shut down a Morocco side who are the second-highest scoring side at the tournament. That’s vital for an Egypt side who head into this one as underdogs, because they’ve only scored twice across their four games in Cameroon.
They should struggle to match this Morocco side, who have won three of their four games at this tournament. They also went through World Cup Qualifying with a 100% record, so I think Morocco are good value even as the favourites for this one.
Egypt lost 1-0 to Nigeria in their opener and in another tough test I see them being narrowly beaten again. Back the Pharaohs to lose out in this one, with a 1-0 victory for Morocco my correct score prediction.
