Eibar vs Atletico Madrid Predictions

This has the feel of a bit of a dead rubber with Atleti 3-0 up from the 1st Leg. Goals from Griezmann, Correa and Gameiro wrapped up a commanding win for Diego Simeone’s men and with a very strong recent record against Eibar, including a win in the tiny Basque town earlier in this month, they should be capable of repeating the trick here.

Eibar are a side that always seems to fade after Christmas and there are already worrying signs that could be the case again this season. They were beaten 4-0 at home by Barcelona in the league on Sunday and while clearly the opposition was strong, they rolled over a bit easier than they might have, certainly in the first half of the campaign when they were a match for just about anyone.

Coach Mendilibar doesn’t seem particularly fussed with the Copa del Rey this term either. He rested a host of key players for the 1st Leg at the Vicente Calderon and perhaps got what he deserved in the shape of a fairly comprehensive defeat. With the tie almost over, he’s likely to rotate again here, especially with a league game against Depor just 3 days after this one. Eibar have failed to score in all of their last 3 home games and it’s hard to see them getting a foothold back in this tie.

Diego Simeone may take the opportunity to rotate too but he does have some genuine quality that he could bring in. The likes of Angel Correa and Nico Gaitan are likely to get starts and will offer an attacking threat. Correa has featured in all of Atleti’s 5 Copa del Rey ties this term, starting 4 of them. The Argentine youngster has fired in 4 goals in those games and backing Correa to score anytime could be a smart move here as he has showed signs that his game has really developed over recent months.

At the back the likes of Juanfran and Stefan Savic could come in and they aren’t necessarily a downgrade on the players who started at the weekend so Atleti should be well-equipped to cope with anything Eibar throw at them, and there looks to be good value in backing Atletico Madrid to Win at 17/20.
