Eibar vs Las Palmas Predictions
Eibar performed a miraculous recovery in the last round as they came back from a 3-0 1st leg defeat at Ponferradina to win the 2nd leg 4-0 and go through 4-3 on aggregate. It was one of the biggest comebacks in the history of the competition and it may just have given themselves a real appetite for the Copa del Rey this year.
That win seems to have given them a bit of a bounce in the league too and they’ve won both matches since the festive break, beating Sporting Gijon 2-0 at home prior to a thumping 4-0 win at Real Betis at the weekend, their biggest ever top flight victory.
With Eibar in 8th place in the league on 27 points they have every reason to have a go in the cup given we are not even at the halfway mark in La Liga yet and they surely aren’t going to be involved in the relegation scrap this term.
They will make changes but they are highly unlikely to be as extensive as those of Las Palmas whose sole priority is staying in the Primera Division. They’ve picked up some encouraging recent results too of late, beating Granada 4-1 and drawing 2-2 at Athletic Bilbao since the international break to move out of the relegation zone.
It’s worth noting here that the journey from Gran Canaria to the tiny town of Eibar is in excess of 2,000km and will involve a 3 hour flight to Bilbao plus a road journey and with a big game to come at home on Sunday against Malaga, Quique Setién is likely to leave some of his star names resting up at home for the league match.
That should help give Eibar the edge and at 5/6 you can back the Basques to pick up their 3rd win in the space of little over a week.
Las Palmas have scored in 9 of their last 11 matches though so there is a goal in this side but they concede plenty too and with Eibar in form, a 3-1 home win could be on the cards at long odds of 16/1.
