El Salvador vs Canada Predictions
It has been a good week so far for Canada though. 20 year old Cyle Larin, who has been in impressive form with Orlando City in the MLS netted the only goal as Canada beat 2014 World Cup finalists Honduras on Thursday to get their group campaign off to the ideal start.
Given they were beaten 8-1 by Honduras in World Cup 2014 qualifying, there are clear signs that they are improving and it marked a 5th unbeaten game for the Canadians and they drew with another strong side in the shape of Ghana in their last friendly.
However they still failed to score a single goal and didn’t make it out of their group at the CONCACAF Gold Cup in July and often struggle to create to many chances. Although they are the bookies favourites it is hard to see them going to El Salvador and winning.
El Salvador were somewhat predictably beaten 3-0 in Mexico in their opening game but on home soil they are a different prospect. Estadio Cuscatlán can be an intimidating place to go to and El Salvador have a pretty strong home record in competitive matches.
These sides met at the Gold Cup and played out a drab 0-0 draw and there doesn’t appear to be a great deal between the sides. Canada often lack the conviction to go and win matches especially away from home and would probably be content with a draw here given their strong start.
With home advantage, which can mean a lot in this part of the world, El Salvador look good value to win at 6/5 in the ‘draw no bet’ market, which might be a good choice given both sides are prone to the draw.
Either way it is hard to see there being many goals and they mustered just 1 goal between them during the group stages of the Gold Cup. With strong home backing, El Salvador might just nick this against a Canada side that is still developing and you can take a punt on a 1-0 home win at odds of 6/1.
