Esbjerg vs FC Copenhagen Predictions

With most of the big leagues around Europe either packed up for the summer or just playing out their final few fixtures, in Denmark they are no different. This weekend sees the side who have been crowned as champions, FC Copenhagen, look to get to the next stage of the ‘Championship Round’ as they face off against an Esbjerg side who will be hoping they can cap off an excellent season with the scalp of an opposition they have traditionally struggled against.

After finishing in fifth position, Esbjerg will be delighted that they managed to qualify for the Danish Superliga’s Championship Round – an extension of the regular season which sees the top six sides in the division play an additional mini league. Since joining that extension, Esbjerg’s form has remained strong and although they were not able to improve their position in the table, they will be delighted with their progress over the last few years and with the fact that they are now competing with the biggest sides in the league.

Making the trip to the Blue Water Arena is an FC Copenhagen side who finished the regular season as the top dogs, a position which they did not relinquish when going into the Championship Round. Although the visitors were soundly defeated against second placed FC Midtjylland last time out, the league was already wrapped up by that point and they had won the previous seven matches to that contest.

Although the hosts will be looking to finish strong and their visitors may have just stepped down their intensity a notch, the head to head record between these two sides is weighted heavily in the favour of FC Copenhagen. Last week’s blip aside, they have been the quality in the field and backing the visitors to add another three points to their tally looks to be the smart move to make.
