Estonia vs Netherlands Predictions

The Netherlands produced a key victory in their push for a place at Euro 2020. After missing the last two major tournaments, the Dutch are now closing in on a return to the big stage following a 4-2 win at Germany on Friday night. The visitors are coming into this clash with six points from their three games in qualifying. They can move in on the top two if they can claim a victory in their second game of the international break, with a visit to Estonia coming up on Monday.

The hosts are bottom of the group on zero points following four defeats. They lost their easiest clash of the campaign on Friday night, with Belarus winning 2-1 in Tallinn over the weekend. Now Estonia look set for a pointless campaign, while they are unlikely to change that this week. They are rank outsiders for this meeting with a Holland side who are on the up. The Dutch come into this clash on a high, having made the Nations League final and  also beating the 2014 World Cup winners. They were able to avenge a 3-2 defeat in Amsterdam against the Germans, which has left the pair in an interesting position. The Dutch have the narrow head to head lead over their old rivals, while both sides now look good for the top two following their single slip. Had Holland lost that clash they would have been nine points shy of Northern Ireland, but they could be within three points by Monday night.

The visitors won’t want to blow their good work so far, while they can look forward to a good finish after a tough start. Meeting Germany twice in their opening three games was tricky, now the visitors can dominate more against the likes of Estonia. The Netherlands have already thumped Belarus 4-0 in this campaign, while they have scored 10 times across their three matches to date. We expect them to add to that here.

Estonia have conceded 14 times in this group, including an 8-0 loss to Germany. We expect the Dutch to get the better of Estonia here, while their four-goal haul in Hamberg points to a high scoring clash for the visiting forwards. We’re going with another heavy defeat for Estonia, who have failed to score in five matches across a seven-game losing streak in European Championship qualifiers. That should allow Holland to win this one by an impressive margin, so the Dutch to win with a -2 handicap is our tip here.
