Fishing for goals could net positive returns
The Faroe Islands and Iceland meet in a summer friendly with nothing but north Atlantic pride on the line as neither team are prepping for the upcoming Euros.
While that may be the norm for the Faroes, Iceland have become accustomed to playing in big summer tournaments after qualifying for the 2016 Euro finals and the 2018 World Cup.
But Strákarnir okkar have fallen to 52nd in the world rankings and their World Cup qualifying campaign has yielded only three points from their opening three contests.
Ranked 113th currently, the Faroe Islands are winless in six dating back to a 2-0 home win over Andorra and were most recently trounced 4-0 by Scotland.
Yet this is a fixture they will look forward to as it will be their first at home in eight months.
Coach Hakan Ericson has brought about steady improvement and they look more likely scorers now, even if that isn’t yet leading to many wins.
The hosts have only failed to score in two of their last 11 meetings, those blanks coming against opponents ranked higher than Iceland – Denmark and the Scots.
Arnar Vidarsson’s visitors know they can be tested here and will be glad that skipper Aron Gunnarsson has recovered from the knock that forced him off in Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Mexico in Dallas.
The form points to a narrow Iceland win but one that could see the hosts get on the scoresheet.
So we’ll take the visitors to win with at least three goals in the game and favour the 1-2 away win in correct score betting.
