FC Dallas vs Sporting Kansas City Predictions
Dallas suffered a 3-0 defeat away at Colorado Rapids last time out and anything but a win on Sunday could see the Texan club lose their place in the playoffs. Sporting KC arrive in poor form and without any motivation to win this weekend other than pride as the visitors best possible finish in the Western Conference this season is tenth place and at worst they will finish one place lower if Houston Dynamo better their result in Sunday’s final game of the season.
All of the stats suggest that we won’t see both teams score on Sunday and we’ve backed Dallas to claim a narrow 1-0 win that will secure seventh place and possibly move them above Portland Timbers and into sixth.
There hasn’t been a goalless draw between these two sides in any of their last seven encounters but both teams have scored in just two of those seven meetings between Dallas and Sporting KC. Dallas have won two of the pairs’ last three encounters and under 2.5 goals have been produced in three of the pairs’ last seven meetings, so you can see why we’re backing a low-scoring home win this Sunday.
The performances of the home side during the last month or so add weight to our prediction for Sunday’s clash, as both teams scored in just one of Dallas’ last four matches and the hosts are unbeaten at home in their last ten MLS games, while Sporting KC have lost their last four away games in the MLS.
The form of both teams heading into the final game of the season suggests that the hosts are best placed to win the game, as Dallas have won two and drawn two of their last six matches and Sporting KC are without a win in their last five matches, four of which have ended in defeat. The hosts don’t need any extra motivation for Sunday’s match as they know that a defeat or even a draw for Dallas could see them lose their place in the playoffs while a win could move them up one place ahead of Portland Timbers and provide them with a platform to build upon.
We’re confident that we won’t see both teams score in Sunday’s match and have predicted a final scoreline of 1-0 in favour of Dallas. Neither team have been playing at their very best in recent weeks so we’re expecting a tight and tense ninety minutes but Dallas have the home advantage, are the form favourites, and have far more motivation for the three points than their guests.
