FC Den Bosch vs FC Volendam Predictions

Den Bosch are odds-on favourites to roll over Volendam this Friday evening, and the win looks a formality on paper considering their strong record at Stadion De Vliert this term and Palingboeren’s five defeats from 11 on the road. But the hosts are wobbling at the moment after suffering consecutive league  defeats, and Volendam could be poised to cause an upset after fighting back from two goals down to draw with Sparta Rotterdam last week.

It’s been a tremendous campaign for Den Bosch, encapsulated by their 16 game unbeaten streak which took them to the top of Eerste Divisie going into the New Year.

But things have gone a little awry for The Blue White Dragons over the past fortnight. Back to back road trips against improving sides FC Eindhoven and RKC Waalwijk was never going to be easy, but Wil Boessen’s charges will be bitterly disappointed to have come away from both empty handed after 2-0 and 2-1 defeats respectively.

With promotion rivals Twente thriving and notching their seventh straight win with a 4-1 beating of Helmond Sport on match day 23, Den Bosch are now 2^nd in the table following their consecutive defeats, and more importantly they now find themselves four points adrift of the Enschede outfit with 15 fixtures remaining in the campaign.

Match day 24 offers Den Bosch a potential opportunity to recoup some of that lost ground with Twente facing an extremely difficult trip to play 4^th placed Sparta Rotterdam who are unbeaten at home this term, but taking care of Volendam will be no easy task for Wil Boessen’s men based on their current form and recent results posted by the visitors.

Volendam made it three wins from four with a fine 1-3 success against defending champions Jong Ajax in Amsterdam a fortnight ago, and they demonstrated their tenacity and resilience to recover from two goals down at home to Sparta last week.

Late goals from Rodney Antwi and Kevin Visser salvaged what appeared a lost cause to secure a 2-2 draw for Palingboeren, and Hans De Koning’s side will head to s-Hertogenbosch this Friday will real momentum as they seek to close in on the Play-off places.

They’re just three points shy of the top nine at present so have plenty to aim at, and although they’ve lost five of their 11 matches on the road this term, they rate as dangerous opponents here for a Den Bosch team who will be feeling the heat.

Den Bosch edged the reverse fixture 1-2 on the opening night of the season and they’ve won their last three at Stadion De Vliert, but odds of around 7/10 for the hosts just look a tad short based on their last two outings.

So we’re keen to take on Wil Boessen’s side in this one, and a wager on Volendam in the double chance market appeals at odds-against. A draw wouldn’t surprise, but for value we’re also opting for a 1-2 success in favour of the visitors with Den Bosch under pressure to avoid a third straight loss.
