Ingolstadt vs Bayern Munich Predictions
FC Ingolstadt are much improved since the appointment of Maik Walpurgis back in November. Although 2017 hasn’t kicked off exactly as planned, with one win and two defeats, Ingolstadt still have some hope of survival from what seemed like almost certain relegation. However, a match at home to league leaders Bayern Munich, against whom Ingolstadt have never taken a single point (see head 2 head), should prove tricky to get back on track.
Bayern Munich are the favourites here at 1/3 with bet365. While we also fancy the visitors to take away all three points, relatively short odds, though potentially profitable, are not the most appealing. Instead, we feel that there’s decent value to be had backing “both teams to score” at evens for the following reasons: even though Bayern Munich hold the best away form in the Bundesliga, recent defensive inconsistencies on the road has shown that the Bavarians are not invincible – Bayern have found themselves conceding on trips to much weaker sides, such as relegation struggling Bremen. Consequently, both teams have scored in 5 of Bayern Munich’s last 7 Bundesliga away matches (72%).
Meanwhile, Ingolstadt are in reasonable form at home and have scored at least one goal in all but one of their last seven home matches (86%), including a 3-3 draw against Dortmund and a 1-0 win against title contenders RB Leipzig. With Bayern Munich also having fewer days to recover and prepare for this match following Tuesday’s DFB Pokal match at home to VfL Wolfsburg, the hosts should have a decent chance to snatch a goal.
Robert Lewandowski is the man on fire for Bayern Munich at the moment and also the man Ingolstadt are no doubt wary of. He’s scored eight goals in his last seven Bundesliga outings and of the seven total goals Bayern have ever scored against Ingolstadt, the Polish international has scored four (57%). Though he’s relatively short odds for an anytime goalscorer at 1/2, there’s value to be had on him to score first at 2/1 here.
Regarding a correct score bet, Ingolstadt have conceded exactly 2 goals in five of their nine home matches so far this season (and have only conceded more than 2 goals once). With Bayern also averaging just under 2 goals scored per match on the road (and having won 2-1 in both of their last two away matches) we feel there’s decent value in a repeat result here at 7/1 with bet365.
