FC Porto vs Famalicao Predictions

  • Porto have won eight straight home league games in 2021-22, conceding in four of the last five.
  • Famalicao have scored in seven of their last eight away league games and have the fourth-most away goals in the Primeira.
  • Famalicao have conceded 19 goals in nine away contests this season.
  • Both teams have scored in the last four meetings between the clubs.

Famalicao won’t catch Dragons off guard

Porto have been purring in their pursuit of the Primeira this season and it’s unlikely that 15th-placed Famalicao will catch them napping on Sunday.

Sergio Conceicao’s side have won all nine of their previous home games this term and given some much better sides than Fama footballing lessons at the Dragao. The 3-1 demolition of Benfica just after Christmas was their most recent example with Porto dominating possession and creating much higher-quality chances than the visitors.

The Dragons next came from two goals down to win at Estoril before recording comfortable cup and league wins over Vizela and Belenenses respectively. They haven’t been able to keep a clean sheet in any of those four games, but it doesn’t matter when you are regularly scoring three and sometimes four goals.

High-scoring Fama can find the net too

Our belief is that they may need to score at least twice against a Famalicao side that, despite their lowly position, is currently the fourth-highest scoring away team in Portugal. Rui Pedro Silva has had four games in charge since leaving Bruno Lage’s side at Wolverhampton Wanderers and his team are yet to taste defeat with one win and three draws.

This is a big step up for them, though, and recent history is not on their side either with Porto having won each of the last three meetings. Both teams have scored in the last four head-to-head contests and Porto have hit nine goals in the last three – so we are convinced it all adds up to a home win with both teams on the scoresheet this weekend too.

The correct score selection that we feel best fits the form of the two clubs is a 2-1 Dragons’ success because the new coach at Famalicao has made them tougher to beat even if they still conceded too many goals.
