Fenerbahce begin their bid to reach the Champions League on Tuesday as they face Polish outfit Gornik Zabrze.

Fener are the clear favourites and they should be able to pick up a win, but backing the Turkish giants to cover the handicap – set at -2 for this game – doesn’t hold much appeal given this is their first assignment of the new season.

Both teams to score is one option as Fenerbahce kept just one clean sheet in their final 14 home games last season but the better approach could instead be backing over 2.5 goals, which covers a big home win.

There were at least three goals scored in six of Fener’s final seven games last season and in all three of their pre-season games. Gornik’s games were less entertaining but they have scored themselves in nine of their last 11 competitive games, so they should be able to add to the total.

Gornik have played one game this season as they lost the Polish Super Cup 3-1 to league champions Lech Poznan, while this is Fenerbahce’s first game of the new campaign. The hosts should still be able to win fairly comfortably and a 3-1 home win has a chance, Fener scored at least three goals in four of their final six home games last season but managed just one clean sheet in their last 13 at this venue so they may well concede in victory.
