Ferencvarosi TC Double Chance (Win or Draw)
Reasoning
Ferencvarosi TC vs Monaco Predictions
- Ferencvaros, who will go through if they avoid defeat, have won their last seven home games.
- Monaco have lost two of their last three games, conceding nine goals across that sequence.
- Defensive midfielder Mohamed Camara returns from suspension and should stabilise Monaco to some extent.
Ferencvaros should feel good about qualification chances
Ferecvaros could upset the odds and book their spot in the knockout rounds of the Europa League by avoiding defeat at home to Monaco on Thursday night. The Hungarians will be confirmed in the top two with a win or draw and clinch the group if they win and Trabzonspor do not in the other game.
Monaco’s fate will be out of their hands if they lose and Trabzonspor win, so there’s no second chances left for Phillipe Clement’s side if things go awry here. Worryingly for them, they arrive amid a three-game winless streak that has seen them concede nine goals.
Last weekend’s 4-3 defeat to Lille was a breathtaking affair and one which they might have been able to edge if defensive midfielder Mohamed Camara had not been missing through suspension. However, the stats from that game do not make pretty reading as Lille bettered Monaco in terms of total shots (20 to 9), shots inside the box (13 to 6), expected goals (2.33 to 1.29), possession (60% to 40%) and completed passes in the opposition half (168 to 138).
Hosts can hold on for a draw in Hungary
Ferencvaros may be unused to tangling with Europe’s bigger names, but that did not stop them from recording a 1-0 win at Stade Louis II earlier in the group. Stanislav Cherchesov’s men have beaten both Trabzonspor and Red Star Belgrade at home, scoring five goals across the two games.
That strengthens our belief that they can do enough damage to a Monaco defence low on confidence even with Camara back to provide a shield. A 1-1 draw could be a profitable play for correct score backers as the Monagasques have scored exactly once in six of their last nine Europa League away contests – four of which finished all square.
