      Feyenoord vs VVV Predictions

Feyenoord ended PSV’s 100% run in the Eredivisie last weekend and reduced the gap between Ajax and the league leaders to just two points. On Thursday night Feyenoord are once again at home in the Eredivisie where they will face seventh placed VVV. The visitors were convincingly beaten 4-1 by high flying Heracles on Sunday and their goal difference of -1 is now the worst in the top eight. Four places and ten points separate the two clubs heading into their midweek clash and the bookmakers are backing Feyenoord to pick up all three points in this one.

Feyenoord were the underdogs in their own backyard on Sunday when they played host to table toppers PSV. The visitors went into the game having won all of their thirteen Eredivisie games this season, and while Feyenoord sat thirteen points behind their guests, they had beaten PSV in the Super Cup and went into the game with a lead in the head to head record between the two clubs.

An excellent first half performance by Feyenoord saw the home side leading at the break, with Danish striker Jørgensen breaking the deadlock in the twenty-eighth minute after good work from Berghuis. Just five minutes after going in front Feyenoord doubled their advantage through Larsson, who scored his first league goal of the campaign. Jørgensen had to be replaced just before the half time whistle and is now a doubt to feature for Feyenoord on Thursday, and the injury had an effect on the hosts second half performance.

PSV came back into the match during the second half and managed to half the deficit in the seventy-second minute through Bergwijn, but despite the ascendancy being with the visitors, Feyenoord managed to hold on to become not only the first team to beat PSV this season, but the first to take any points off the champions elect. Van Persie returned to the hosts squad after injury and would be the prefect replacement for Jørgensen, if the Dane fails to recover from his injury in time to face VVV on Thursday.

Feyenoord’s top scorer this season is the former Arsenal and Manchester United striker van Persie who has scored six times in the Eredivisie so far, while teammate Toornstra has chipped in with four goals and Berghuis has managed three. VVV’s top scorer Mlapa sits on five Eredivisie goals for the campaign, and heads into Thursday’s game in great form for the visitors with five goals in his last five appearances in the league.

An early goal from Adrián Dalmau saw VVV behind at the break in their trip to Almelo on Sunday, and things got worse for the visitors in the second half when Duarte doubled Heracles’ lead in the forty-ninth minute. The next goal of the game would be crucial to the end result, and when Peterson ended his goal drought by converting a fifty-fifth minute penalty for Heracles, there was no way back for VVV. Röseler scored a consolation goal for the visitors in the sixty-fifth minute, but Heracles responded with Duarte’s second goal of the match four minutes later to help wrap up an impressive 4-1 win.

VVV went into their game against Heracles as the clear form favourites, but were completely outplayed with just 38% of the overall possession, one corner to the hosts fourteen, and just six shots during the ninety minutes, compared to the twenty that Heracles produced. Its hard to imagine anything but a Feyenoord win on Thursday when looking at where each team stands in the table and their results heading into the match, but the head to head record between the pair is very close and VVV are a side that Feyenoord have always found to be tricky.

We’re confident that Feyenoord will win to nil on Thursday, and have backed the final scoreline to read 2-0. Feyenoord have won two of the last three meetings between the pair, and the hosts have kept three clean sheets in their last six matches heading into Thursday’s game. VVV have only won one of their last five games and have failed to keep a single clean sheet during that period, and the visitors have lost their last two away games against AZ Alkmaar in the KNVB Beker and Heracles in the Eredivisie.
