Finland can pile more misery on Bulgaria

Bulgaria’s hopes of qualifying for next year’s European Championships were quashed in the playoffs on Thursday as they lost 3-1 to Hungary and more frustration could await them in the resumption of the Nations League.

After holding Ireland to a 1-1 draw, Bulgaria lost their first away match of the competition in Wales and they lack quality in the final third to cause Finland problems.

Bulgaria have fired blanks in four of their previous six competitive matches, while Finland have kept three clean sheets in the same number of games and they could be the team to side with.

Finland beat Ireland but lost to Wales in their first two Nations League games – a better record than Bulgaria – and have been particularly strong in their own back yard, winning seven of their last ten home assignments in all competitions.

Our prediction is a Finland success and given how both sides have seen plenty of low-scoring affairs of late, 1-0 could be the best correct score punt.
