Finland vs Northern Ireland Predictions
Finland started their qualification brightly when they beat group minnows Faroe Islands 3-1 away from home, but it all went downhill from there.
They could only manage a draw against Greece, which wouldn’t have been a bad result until you look retrospectively at Greece’s shocking performance in this qualifying period.
After that they lost all of their next four games, essentially ruling them out of any qualification run in.
But they have upped their game now the pressure is off, and are currently on a three match unbeaten streak which includes victories against Greece and Faroe Islands.
But Northern Ireland have performed well so far in this group, and they only need to pick up a point to secure the top spot going into next summers’ finals.
They have only lost one of their nine group matches so far, with a 2-0 loss to Romania joining two draws and six wins to make up their 20 point tally.
They beat the Finnish contingent 2-1 on home soil back in March to make it two wins, two losses, and a draw for Northern Ireland in their last five games against Finland.
All but one of those games have ended with three or more goals scored, but a recent downturn in goalscoring form has left odds looking at an attractive 5/4 for Over 2.5 Goals. This is definitely worth a punt, but I think there is more value to be had in other markets.
Northern Ireland will want to end their successful qualifying campaign on a high, and despite having already qualified officially they will want to put the cherry on the cake by finishing at the top of Group F.
I think that this, coupled with the performances both sides have put in so far, makes odds of 21/10 for a Northern Ireland win on Sunday look like incredibly good value, and I’m backing that along with a 2-1 correct scoreline at 10/1.
