Viola bid for Conference double

While Fiorentina suffered a demoralising 4-0 Serie A defeat to Lazio on Monday, and have won just two of their last 12 games in all competitions, they had no trouble in seeing off Hearts 3-0 at Tynecastle last week, and are bidding to complete a Europa Conference League double on Thursday. Despite their poor form this season, Vincenzo Italiano’s men have a decent home record, and will be confident of opening up a four-point gap over the Scots in Group A.

Indeed, four of Fiorentina’s five losses this season have come on the road, with Maurizio Sarri’s Biancocelesti becoming the first visitors to win in Firenze this week. Fiorentina’s problems this campaign have come at the sharp end of the pitch; they have failed to score in seven of their last 12 games, but have kept five clean sheets in that run. Meanwhile, just five Serie A teams have conceded fewer expected goals than Fiorentina’s 9.2 xGA this season.

Hearts have taken just three points from their first three games in Group A, suffering heavy back-to-back defeats to Istanbul Basaksehir and Fiorentina (4-0 and 3-0) Robbie Neilson’s side have the fourth-best attacking record in the Scottish Premiership this season, but have struggled to translate that form onto the European stage, failing to score in three of their last four continental matches.

Scots to suffer Heartache
