Fleetwood Town vs Peterborough Predictions
- Only four teams have conceded less home goals than Fleetwood in League 1 this season.
- Peterborough have beaten just one top-half team away from home during the current campaign.
- Fleetwood have conceded just 2.13 shots on target per 90 minutes at home this season.
Hosts moving forward
Positioned outside of the top six they may be, but Fleetwood are no back number. As far as the play-off race is concerned, Joey Barton’s men are not be discounted as they come into this match unbeaten in six. Less prolific in terms of wins than some, the Cod Army are very, very tough to get the better of, especially when playing at Highbury.
Only five League 1 teams have picked up more travelling points than Fleetwood, so they’re no slouches on the road, but home is certainly where the heart is for Barton’s side, who’ve lost none of their last nine at home. Not only are they unbeaten at Highbury Stadium since early October, but they’ve lost just one of their 15 home matches all season. Such a record is testament to their solidity, particularly in defence.
Having conceded just 12 goals in 15 home games, Fleetwood are a side that can make life very difficult for an opposing attack. They’ve not only resisted when push has come to shove, but they’re good at restricting teams too, stopping them from building up a head of steam, as an average of just 2.13 shots on target against suggests. They’ve also shipped more than a single goal in just one out of 15.
Posh in flying form
Winners of their last six league matches, Peterborough are a side that couldn’t be in better form right now. They’ve gone back to firing on all cylinders offensively, scoring four goals in four of their last six, while they’re doing a much better job of stopping teams defensively than they were over the festive period. Everyone is the promotion race must now fear Darren Ferguson’s men.
However, for all Posh arrive at this juncture in excellent form, they’ve certainly not been flawless on the road this season. For a start, they’ve lost more than they’ve won away from home and have only scored one goal more than they’ve conceded, which is a bit alarming considering that they’ve notched 25 times. In addition, Peterborough haven’t exactly covered themselves in glory when playing away against sides that currently reside in the top half. Saturday’s visitors have won just one of their six travelling matches against such sides, three of which they’ve lost.
Cod Army to prevail
Peterborough have been in excellent form of late, but there’s not too much to like about their travelling efforts in relation to this match, so much so that, at the prices, Fleetwood look a good to bet to end Posh’s hot streak. It’s been a while since the Cod Army were anything but solid at home, while they come into this game off the back of a confidence boosting win against Doncaster when last in action at this venue. They’re also very good at keeping top teams quiet, conceding just one goal in their last three matches against top-eight sides. Add in the fact that they’ve conceded far less goals at home than Peterborough have on the road, combined with the fact that they average more points, win more games, keep more clean sheets and surrender far less in terms of both shots and shots on target and it becomes easy to feel that the hosts deserve more respect in the betting.
