Forest Green Rovers vs Newport County Predictions

Rovers gunning for three points in blockbuster clash

Two of League Two’s most in-form sides lock horns at the New Lawn as Forest Green, unbeaten in 16 league matches, tackle a Newport side who have won four in a row.

The hosts though will be confident of racking up another victory. They comfortably dispatched one of the division’s most frugal sides, Tranmere, 4-0 last weekend, before coming from behind to draw with Port Vale on Tuesday.

Rob Edwards’ side have won nine of their 13 on home soil, losing just twice, while they have kept six consecutive clean sheets in Nailsworth, conceding just nine times there all season.

This will be another true test of their promotion credentials, but they have picked up seven victories in their last eight here and have a good chance of extending that run.

Newport up against it?

Newport came out on top when these two sides met in the play-off semi-finals last year and they head into this one on the back of four straight wins, two of which came on the road, 1-0 at Scunthorpe and Leyton Orient.

They sit third in the table and have won six times away from Rodney Parade, but have picked up just two victories in the last six and kept just two clean sheets in the last twelve.

This is a massive game for James Rowberry, arguably his biggest yet as County manager, and it is worth noting none of those four recent wins came against sides in the top half of the table.

Forest Green are top of League Two for a reason; they are the best team in the division by some distance. I predict they will take another step towards promotion by winning, selecting 2-0 as a correct score.
