      Forfar vs Livingston Predictions

League One side Forfar Athletic will welcome a travelling Livingston team to Station Park on Saturday as the hosts aim to cause an upset and progress to the next round. Can they make it through?

Forfar Athletic come into this tie after a decent run of games leading up to it. The Loons have just come from a 1-0 win over Stranraer in League One, although the Angus side left it late when it came to opening the scoring. Dale Hilson scored the only goal from the penalty spot with just under 15 minutes to go, but the hosts thoroughly deserved it but they struggled to convert their other 8 shots on target.

This was the Loons’ 2nd league win after they also beat Airdrieonians 2-0 on the opening day of the league campaign. Before that, Jim Weir’s side had won 3 of their 4 League Cup group stage games, defeating St Johnstone, Montrose and Brechin City, as well as losing to Championship winners Ross County- their only defeat in their last 8 games.

Livingston have had a less exciting season so far, as the Premiership side will be out in full force to try and retain their top-flight status for yet another year. However, Gary Holt’s side have settled for mediocrity in their opening games with two draws, their most recent fixture ending 2-2 against St Johnstone.

Livi had gone 2-0 up in the first half, with goals coming from Scott Pittman in the 13th minute and Steven Lawless in the 39th. But St Johnstone, who had been battered 7-0 by Celtic the week before, invoked their inner beast and managed to pull back two goals and earn themselves a point.

Despite these setbacks, Livingston are still undefeated in their last 8 games, winning an impressive 5 times since their defeat to Paksi SE at the start of July, 3 of which came in their League Cup group stage games.

Forfar Athletic will be in high spirits going into this game, as they more than likely wouldn’t have expected to make it past the group stage phase, but their semi-professional status could be a key factor for this tie, as the gulf in quality will be huge. Livingston will be confident that they can retain their place in the Premiership before the season ends and they’re yet to go on a bad run of games that would certainly sound the alarm bells, therefore there’s no reason not to back them to do reasonably well in the League Cup. Regardless of Forfar’s good form, we’re going to back Livi to win here and make it through to the next round, with a final score of 2-0 to the West Lothian outfit.
