In-form Mainz can heap the pressure on Hertha
A seven-game unbeaten run has moved Mainz well away from relegation danger in the Bundesliga and they can pile more pressure on second-bottom Hertha Berlin with victory at the Opel Arena.
Mainz’s impressive sequence of results has featured five wins and two draws and their list of recent scalps include Freiburg, Hoffenheim and, latterly, leaders Bayern Munich.
Since the turn of the year, Mainz have also toppled Leipzig and Borussia M’gladbach and held Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen, which highlights the improvement they have made.
Bo Svensson’s side are now eight points clear of Hertha, who are in the bottom two, albeit with three games in hand.
The visitors have suffered just one defeat in five but they are far less reliable on their travels, having collected only 11 points from 14 away games.
Hertha are winless in ten away league fixtures and have failed to score in four of their last seven road matches.
It promises to be tight but we are predicting Mainz, who have won five of their last six matches by a single goal, to edge it. Correct-score punters should opt for 2-1.
