Gambia vs Cameroon Predictions

  • Cameroon have seven wins in their last eight games, with one draw, including three at AFCON.
  • Cameroon are the tournament’s top scorers with nine goals.
  • Vincent Aboubakar has scored six of those goals.
  • Gambia are also unbeaten at AFCON, but have lost both of their previous meetings with Cameroon.

Cameroon can pass Gambia test

Host nation Cameroon were made to work hard against the nine-men of Comoros in the last 16 and will have to be on top form to see off a stubborn Gambia outfit in the quarter-finals on Saturday.

Gambia have only conceded one goal at AFCON but have only scored four in four games themselves, winning three of their fixtures 1-0 and playing out one 1-1 draw.

Cameroon have also won three of their four games, with one draw, but their matches have included more goals. The Indomitable Lions are comfortably the competition’s top scorers with nine goals so far, but they have also conceded in all of their games.

Cameroon are the odds-on favourites to win the game and they should be able to get the job done inside 90 minutes. Gambia definitely rode their luck in a group stage win over Tunisia, the highest ranked side they have faced so far according to FIFA, and they were arguably fortunate to overcome Guinea in the last 16.

Clean sheets an issue for The Indomitable Lions

The tournament hosts went into the event in good form and have seven wins and one draw in their last eight games.  The five-time winners have won both of their previous meetings with Gambia and deserve to be pre-match favourites but as The Scorpions have been strong defensively and Cameroon have been conceding goals I’m not willing to try and force a bigger price in this fixture and a straightforward win for Cameroon is the main bet.

Gambia may be good for a goal, however, as Cameroon are yet to keep a clean sheet and a 2-1 win for Toni Conceicao’s men appeals in the correct score market. Gambia may have managed three clean sheets in four games, but they are yet to face an attack as deadly as Cameroon’s.

Finally, an anytime goal from Cameroon’s Vincent Aboubakar has real potential. Aboubakar is the tournament’s top scorer with six goals and he has scored in all four games so far, and he can continue his hot-streak against Gambia on Saturday.
