      Under 2.5 Match Goals

      Reason for tip

Fewer than three goals have been scored in six of Georgia’s last 10 home competitive (non-friendly games) and also in their last play-off game – a 1-0 home defeat to North Macedonia. Meanwhile, Luxembourg usually keep it tight away from home, conceding one goal or fewer in four of their five away qualifiers for Euro 2024.

      Draw 1-1

      Reason for tip

Luxembourg avoided defeat in four of their five away Euro 2024 qualifiers and drew at both Slovakia and Iceland, which suggests they are capable of earning a draw here. Portugal (twice_ were the only team to score more than one goal against the Red Lions in 10 qualifying games while Georgia have scored fewer than two goals in five of their last eight competitive games.

Chances of a goal fest look bleak in Tbilisi

Goals could be scarce, increasing the likelihood of a draw when Georgia host Luxembourg in Thursday’s Euro 2024 play-off clash.

The game in Tbilisi is a sell out as both nations bid to qualify for a major finals for the first time. Georgia were within 90 minutes of qualifying for Euro 2020 only to fall at the final hurdle when Goran Pandev put North Macedonia through at their expense.

That experience has made them hungrier and should serve Willy Sagnol’s side well in what is likely to be another tense encounter against a well-drilled Luxembourg squad.

Red Lions can be really hard to break down

The Red Lions were very hard to beat in qualifying, avoiding defeat in seven of their 10 games of which five were won. They kept clean sheets in away games against Slovakia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Liechtenstein with the only blot on their record being a 9-0 thumping against Portugal.

Although Georgia have some superb individuals, including Napoli attacker Kvicha Kvaratskhelia and Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, they do not have the same depth of quality as Portugal and that should enable Luxembourg to cope with the hosts’ main threats.

Georgia have won three, drawn three and lost one – to Spain – of their last seven competitive (non-friendly) home games and fewer than three goals have been scored in six of their last 10. Backing Under 2.5 goals is not great value, but with history on the line for both nations and Luxembourg’s defence usually pretty tight, that looks like being the best bet on this ocasion.
