Tip Reasoning

  • Four of Greece’s last seven non-friendly matches have been 0-0 at half-time.
  • Greece have scored six of their seven World Cup qualifying goals after HT.
  • Kosovo have scored only one goal before HT in their last seven non-friendly matches.

Slow-starters Greece can end group on a high

Greece’s hopes of making the playoffs were extinguished by Spain on Thursday, but the hosts will want to end their qualification fixtures with a win against Kosovo.

Ethniki will regret their inconsistent performances and failure to pressurise weaker opponents when they examine why they have not fared better in Group B and one such instance was the 1-1 draw in Kosovo two months ago.

Vedat Muriqi plundered the equaliser two minutes into stoppage time to wipe out Greece’s undeserved lead on a night when coach John van’t Schip tried to see out the result with four centre-backs on the pitch.

Kosovo goal drought could continue

However, Kosovo haven’t picked up a point from three subsequent qualifiers and were beaten 2-0 by Jordan last week, so Greece should feel good about gaining their revenge on home soil. Their record suggests the fans at the Spiros Louis may have to be patient because Greece have scored very few first-half goals in their last two qualifying programmes.

Only three of their 12 in Euro 2020 qualifying came before half-time while only one of the seven in this group have been within the first 45 minutes. That cannot be a coincidence, so we are minded to follow the pattern and back Draw/Greece in the double result market.

Kosovo aren’t great at scoring early in games either and we feel their recent goal drought – only one goal in the last 360 minutes – points to a routine 2-0 win for the hosts.
