Hamburger haven’t had the best of times during their winter break. They have taken part in three friendlies against Ajax, Rot Weiss Erfurt, and Young Boys and lost every one of them at home.

The purpose of these friendlies is to keep match fitness up, but a trio of defeats following on from two defeats and a draw in their previous three Bundesliga games will have given their confidence a bit of a knock.

Worryingly, all five of Hamburger’s defeats in the last six matches have come on home turf, with their only point being picked up away from home at Wolfsburg.

Bayern Munich have managed to pick up more than twice as many points as their opponents. Their 46 point tally unsurprisingly leaves them at the top of the Bundesliga table with an eight point advantage over Borussia Dortmund.

Bayern Munich only took park in one friendly during the winter break, with a 2-1 defeat at Karlsruher last weekend serving as a reminder that match fitness is very important. I have no doubt that Pep Guardiola will have been working the Bayern squad hard in training this week.

Before this friendly defeat the Bundesliga champions had won four on the bounce in all competitions, keeping a clean sheet throughout as well. Their surprising 3-1 defeat to Monchengladbach makes it nine wins from their last ten outings in competitive football. They have kept seven clean sheets during this run and scored 25 goals.

Considering Bayern Munich’s excellent defensive record of just eight goals conceded in 17 matches (three of those in a single match), I think odds of 5/6 for Bayern Munich to Win to Nil are excellent value. I’m also going for a 3-0 correct score prediction at 6/1.
