Hannover vs Wolfsburg Predictions
Hannover 96 are still sitting bottom of the Bundesliga, 6 points away from the safety zone, despite a shock result taking all 3 points away from Stuttgart with a 2-1 win last Saturday. This win secured Hannover their first points of 2016 (with a 2016 record of 1 win and 5 losses since the Bundesliga recommenced) with both goals coming from set pieces by central defender and captain Christian Schulz.
For Wolfsburg’s standards, they too are struggling to find form this season, and much like Hannover have had a poor start to 2016. Wolfsburg failed to hold off Bayern Munich at home last weekend making their 2016 record 1 win, 2 draws and 3 losses (5 points out of a possible 18) and as a result sit 8th in the Bundesliga. They are currently trailing 8 points behind 3rd placed Hertha Berlin, a gap Wolfsburg will be aiming to close as they target Champions League football again for next season.
This is a match between the team with the worst home record in the Bundesliga this season (Hannover 96) against the team with the worst away record in the Bundesliga this season (Wolfsburg). Hannover have lost all 4 of their last home matches, in 3 of which they have failed to score a single goal. Unbelievably, Wolfsburg have managed just 1 away win since the start of the season making them winless in 6 straight away matches (4 losses and 2 draws). Both teams have very important games next week with Hannover playing a relegation “6 pointer” against rivals Werder Bremen, and at the other end of the table Wolfsburg with a tough game against Borussia M’gladbach, which is important for them if they hope to get any closer to European football next season. Expect this to be closer than it seems on paper as Hannover will have a slither of hope from their win last Saturday and will come out fighting for survival against an away-form lacking Wolfsburg. It should, however, also be a low scoring match due to Hannover’s lack of goal-scoring at home and Wolfsburg missing top scorer Bas Dost to injury. Under 2.5 goals with a result of a draw 1-1 at 11/2 seems likely for this match.
