Heidenheim love their home comforts

If only Heidenheim played as well away as they did at home last season, they would have surely been playing top-flight football this season. They did kick off the new campaign with an away win and now look to continue that fine home form which saw them accrue more home points than all but St Pauli in 2021/22.

Providing the opposition are newly-promoted Braunschweig, who began the new season with something of a reality check as they fell 2-0 to Hamburg, which is curiously the same scoreline that they lost by in each of their last two visits to Heidenheim.

Braunschweig have now lost three consecutive league games after their opening day defeat, albeit only once in this division. This season is set to be an uphill battle for the new boys and a visit to Heidenheim will be one of their toughest fixtures in the entire campaign.

Not only were the visitors beaten on the opening day, they were dominated in terms of possession which is something they desperately need to work on. Manager Michael Schiele will have fond memories of his win over Heidenheim as Sandhausen boss in 2020/21, although that seems a far flung memory by this point.
