Huddersfield vs Charlton Predictions
- Charlton have lost 10 of their last 14 trips in the Championship.
- The Addicks have lost 5 of their last 6 away games.
- Huddersfield have won 4 of their last 7 at home.
- The Terriers are on a three-game winning streak against Charlton, including the reverse fixture this season.
Last Minute Panic
There was more late heartbreak for Charlton in midweek, with a last gasp loss to Sheffield Wednesday. Only Wednesday (8) have conceded more 90th minute goals in the Championship this season than Charlton (6) following that defeat. It was also the Addicks’ latest away loss, with their poor travelling form haunting them in this trip.
The Addicks are away to a Huddersfield side who are right beside them in the Championship. The pair are sat in the bottom six, with relegation fears still quite serious for both. Can the visitors shake a dire away record in order to keep themselves out of danger?
Relegation Showdown
These two side are just two points clear of the drop zone heading into this meeting. Despite that, their trajectory has been entirely different. Huddersfield clawed their way out of the bottom three after a poor start, while Charlton have dropped like a stone. This could be pivotal as both look to stay clear of danger, but Charlton’s collapse could continue here.
The visitors’ downturn is clear in their awful away form, which is the fifth-worst in the division. Charlton took seven points from their first three away league games this season (W2 D1) but have since won just six in their subsequent 14 on the road (W1 D3 L10). They head here with five defeats in six away, while they’ve been awful at Huddersfield over the years. The Addicks have won one of their last seven away league games against Huddersfield (D2 L4), a 1-0 win in March 2013.
Terriers Taking Off
Huddersfield have won four of their last seven home league games (D1 L2), as many as in their previous 32 home games combined. They seem to have shaken the negative impact of what was a horrible final season in the Premier League. That new lease of life helped them to a 2-1 win over Bristol City at the weekend.
Charlton’s poor form has eroded all confidence we have in them, while it’s pushed them towards the drop. With three defeats in five, they look there for the taking as far as Huddersfield are concerned. The hosts are improving at home and they have the chance to continue their push for safety this weekend. That’s a chance we expect them to take.
Huddersfield have won their last three league games against Charlton, scoring eight goals and conceding just once. We see them adding to that here, although the visitors have been in solid form in front of goal. The Addicks have scored in 76% of their away trips, losing 2-1 on five occasions. Huddersfield have won by that scoreline in all but two of their home wins, so we’re backing the hosts to edge this 2-1.
