Huddersfield vs Lincoln City Predictions

Back in May, there were 48 sides between Huddersfield and Lincoln in the football pyramid. The previous campaign finished with the Terriers bottom of the Premier League while Lincoln won League Two. They’re now even closer, with the host struggling in the second tier while the Imps impress in the third. Now the pair meet as equals in the EFL Cup, which could see the visitors pull off a huge shock following some decent form in the cups. With the hosts still reeling from last season’s poor form, we can see an upset on the cards here.

Huddersfield have a point to their name as things stand following their 1-1 draw with QPR at the weekend. The hosts were beaten by Derby in their first game here, which brought a poor display which seemed to be impacted by their struggles from the 2018/19 campaign. The Terriers are going to need to improve, especially with pressure gaining on boss Jan Siewert. Could things get even worse for him with a blow in the EFL Cup too?

Lincoln are going in the other direction, having moved second in League One just two games into the campaign as a newly promoted side. This could be a third promotion campaign in four seasons for Lincoln, who are making a brilliant rise through the EFL. However, they’ve achieved cup success under the Cowleys too. They’ve won the EFL trophy under them, while they made history as a non-league side making the fifth-round of the FA Cup. Could they pull off a big result in the League Cup too?

With two wins to nil to start the season, it’s hard to criticise the visitors so far. Meanwhile, Huddersfield have issues in defence under Siewert. Karlan Grant scored his second goal of the season at the weekend, both of which have come from the penalty spot. Grant is unlikely to feature in this clash, while we don’t expect this disciplined Lincoln side making many mistakes here.

Huddersfield are without a win in 12 matches, while they’ve won only once in their last 28 games. The Terriers have lost 23 times in that run, so we don’t fancy them to edge out a result here. Meanwhile, with five defeats in their last six games, Huddersfield aren’t great in this competition. They’ve managed one win in eight EFL Cup ties, so we’re backing Lincoln Double Chance here.
